Campground Overview

Bridger Bay Campground – Antelope Island State Park, Utah

Bridger Bay Campground is the main developed camping area on Antelope Island State Park, offering wide-open views of the Great Salt Lake, big-sky sunsets, and easy access to the island’s beaches and wildlife. With sites designed for both tents and RVs, plus nearby beach access and island hiking trails, this campground makes a great base for exploring one of Utah’s most unique state parks.

Location & Setting

The campground is located on the northern end of Antelope Island, reached by driving the causeway west from Syracuse and following the main park road toward Bridger Bay and Buffalo Point. Campsites sit on gently sloping ground above the lake, with sweeping views of the water, surrounding mountains, and the island’s open grasslands. The landscape is mostly treeless, so expect big horizons, dramatic sunsets, and star-filled night skies, along with a very “wide open” camping feel that is distinct from forested mountain campgrounds.

Campground Overview

Bridger Bay Campground includes two main loops with dozens of sites that accommodate tents, trailers, and RVs. A number of sites offer water and electric hookups, while others are more primitive, giving campers flexibility depending on their setup. Shade structures, when available, help provide relief from the sun in this mostly treeless environment. Because of its location near the park’s main beach and day-use areas, Bridger Bay is popular with families, road trippers, and those looking for a convenient, developed camping option on the island.

Amenities

Campsites at Bridger Bay typically include a covered picnic table, fire ring, and grill. The campground is served by restrooms, and in normal operating conditions, flush toilets, showers, potable water, and a dump station are available in or near the campground area. Some sites offer partial hookups with water and electricity, while others are non-hookup sites suited for dry-camping rigs and tents. Campers should always check current park advisories, as water availability on Antelope Island can be affected by maintenance projects and seasonal conditions.

Activities & Nearby Recreation

Staying at Bridger Bay puts you close to some of Antelope Island’s best recreation. The nearby Bridger Bay Beach area offers swimming and easy access to the unique experience of floating in the salty waters of the Great Salt Lake. The Buffalo Point area and other viewpoints provide excellent sunset and sunrise photo opportunities, while park roads and trails offer chances to spot free-roaming bison, pronghorn, mule deer, and a wide variety of birds. Hiking, cycling, wildlife viewing, and photography are some of the most popular activities, and the island’s dark skies often deliver impressive stargazing on clear nights.

Summary

Bridger Bay Campground is a great choice for campers seeking a distinctive Great Salt Lake experience with island views, wildlife, and convenient access to beaches and trails. With a mix of hookup and non-hookup sites, basic but useful amenities, and big open scenery in every direction, it offers a memorable base for exploring Antelope Island State Park and the broader northern Utah region.
