To start of our Campvue review of site 14, just pointing out our yellow REI tent in the above clip. Always like to brag lol! This was taken during the 2025 Campvue Northern Tour, and now that the tour has ended, I can say Big Creek Campground, and Site 14, are my favorite of 2025. Let's break it down. Big Creek Campground is located outside the western edge of Glacier National Park, in northwestern Montana. We did not find any other National Forest Campgrounds with reservations (on recreation.gov) in this region (although there are an abundance of dispersed sites in the Flathead National Forest). We first found this campground because every campground in Glacier National Park was booked for the dates we needed, so found out about this place, and saw site 14 was open, and went for it. Sure am glad I did. I did have a couple days inside Glacier too (after my stay here), and if I'm being honest, staying in Glacier was wonderful, but nothing I saw in terms of campgrounds has anything on this place. Site 14 is right on the river, as are a few other sites (like 13, 15 and 16), and a couple others. This might be among the top sites in Big Creek Campground, if not the top. My tent was just feet from the river's edge, and I could cast my line in to catch one of the several species of trout that inhabit the river. Even if you don't fish, I saw people swimming and rafting in the cool waters, so lot's of recreational opportunities here. As for the site specs, you get a fire ring and picnic table, and the host was selling firewood during our stay. There were vault toilets right across the road from 14, and they were clean and well kept. This campsite (as well as most in the campground), is in a dense forest, so that means pretty much all day shade. It was quite wonderful. I was surprised at how there were not many bugs here, especially mosquitos, and come to think of it, don't recall getting bit once. The main feature here is the crystal clear, North Fork of the Flathead river. It felt like a world-class location to e. Maybe I should've put an option for 6 star ratings, because this place certainly stands out amongst other top competition. It's the kind of campsite where family traditions are born. I always like to find at least one nit-pick to show I'm fair, and if I had to here, it's the fact that bear lockers are shared. This is heavy grizzly and black bear habitat. The host said that they had not seen any grizzlies however that year except for one very briefly, but nothing that was a threat or worrisome. Because the neighboring sites were using the lockers, the host said it's totally fine to keep scented items in your vehicle, so long as it's secure. The main thing was to not leave food out or leave a mess. I say this because some campgrounds in bear country have much stricter rules than that. And I can report, no bears were sighted and no problems encountered. But, if facilities urge you to use bear lockers, would be nice to have one per site. But that's the only real critique. Otherwise, this place is as perfect as it gets, and Site 14 should be on your radar if you book!
