Chiricahua National Monument feels like another planet, and nowhere is that more obvious than the Heart of Rocks. We hike into a maze of towering pinnacles, bizarre formations, and gravity-defying balanced rocks hidden deep within Arizona's Wonderland of Rocks. Chiricahua National Monument is famous for its surreal landscape of towering rhyolite pinnacles, but to really experience the Wonderland of Rocks, you have to get down into it. In this video, we hike the Heart of Rocks Loop, one of the most spectacular trails in Chiricahua National Monument in southeastern Arizona. The trail winds through an incredible concentration of hoodoos, balanced rocks, narrow passages, and bizarre formations—including Pinnacle Balanced Rock and Big Balanced Rock. The Heart of Rocks Loop itself is 7.3 miles round trip and is rated strenuous, with plenty of rocky terrain and stone steps. There are several ways to reach the loop, and we'll show you what it's like to actually hike into the heart of this extraordinary landscape. If you've ever wondered what lies beyond the spectacular views along the Chiricahua scenic drive, this is where you'll find out.
