I camped at site 14 back in 2024 and reviewed it for the YouTube channel the Cactus Atlas, so you can check out that thorough review and see everything I will discuss in this review on that channel. Just search for "Yavapai campground review" and you should be able to find it easily. This was my first camping experience in the Prescott National forest, and as a Phoenix resident, I appreciate being able to make a relatively short drive to escape the heat of the Sonoran desert and spend time at higher elevation amongst beautiful ponderosa pine trees. Site 14 is a well-manicured site, nicely terraced and leveled off. Perfect for a tent camper like me, and the driveway also seemed long enough to accommodate a reasonably-sized RV or trailer. This site is pretty private and like most sites on the loop, there are just woods and javelina in your backyard. The neighboring site is kinda close by, but not right on top of you. When I stayed, there was a large group set up next door, and they had an elaborate set up with a digital projector so they could watch movies projected onto a sheet at night. So that was a good stress test for privacy, and I can tell you it did not bother me, so enough room to breathe. The campground has some vault toilets, but they were very clean and odor free. The campsite amenities are standard here, being a picnic table and fire ring, but what else do you really need? One favorite pastime I enjoy is going for walks inside or near the campground after dark to look for interesting wildlife, and I came across many javelina that definitely seemed to have an interest in the campground, though they stayed on the outskirts and never encroached too much. They were peaceful and I never perceived them as a threat. I thought that was really neat. One great feature of this campground is that Granite Basin Lake and Granite Mountain are just a couple minute drive from the campground, and I went early morning and it looked like a beautiful setting to fish, or boat, although it is a very small lake. I spent time walking around the lake perimeter and enjoyed viewing the wildlife like birds and deer. There is also good hiking on Granite Mountain too. The only thing that prevented this site from getting a five star review is that it is pretty exposed to the sun... there were not many trees, and the vegetation was kind of sparse, but this is a total nitpick. I would happily stay in site 14 again, and it might be among the better sites in the campground.
