I camped at site 33 in mid August of 2024. Since I'm the Campvue guy, it was actually the very day I filmed the drive thru footage you see here (just had not set up my tent yet, which is why 33 does not have a tent in it above). Overall, this is a great campground. Anytime spent in Oak Creek Canyon, especially in the summer, is a welcome time, especially for one who lives down in the hot Sonoran Desert of Phoenix like me. Being that you are in a canyon, and a forested area at that, things stay nice and cool and shady much of the day. But, that being said, the campsites themselves are a bit crowded and close together, and lacking of vegetation to block sight lines to your neighbors. The neighboring site you can see here was quite close, especially if you measure the distance from the tent area to the neighbor's driveway. Lucky for me, the people in the rig next door kept to themselves and were quiet, but if you did set up next to a rowdier group, privacy could be a concern. There is nobody behind you though, which helps. Now, right across the street, there was a group of young, college boys, who clearly came ready to party hard. When I arrived, they were playing loud music out of a boombox and drinking some brews, and just getting things started. Things had not gotten out of hand and we were still not outside quiet hours (so no harm, no foul), but I started to worry a bit as I was in need of going to sleep at a decent time to start my work the next day. But no sooner than the ruckus began, one of the campground hosts rolled up and shut it down. They do not allow music to be played out loud here, and he very nicely advised them to turn it off and informed them of the policy. They complied, and from that point, all was quiet on the western front. I very much appreciated that. I don't judge others or want to ruin someone else's good time, but its that sort of thing that could ruin a camping experience when it goes on into the evening, and its rare that I see hosts keeping tabs on things like that. So huge kudos. But this is a party-type area, especially in the summer, with Sedona and swimming holes nearby, but this campground seemed to cater mostly to quiet folk like me. But I could see this sort of behavior as not being uncommon in this area, so hopefully the hosts are always on top of things like that. So if you are looking to party, this may not be the best place to do so, as they may shut your party down before things get going. Mainly trying to show you that while the setting is amazing, and serene, the close proximity of some campsites does set up the potential for privacy issues. I would not let this deter you though. The facility was very clean, and well kept, and you are not far from conveniences if you did not come fully prepared to rough it out a little bit. Overall though, I can highly recommend site 33, and it is about par for the course for most sites in this wonderful campground. You can't really go wrong.
