This is not my first rodeo at Mather. I've camped here over the years on 5 or 6 separate occasions. Site 171 is similar to most of the over 300 sites in this campground in that it sits in a forest of juniper and pinyon pines, and is reasonably far apart from neighboring sites. There's a restroom with flushing toilets and sinks within walking distance, and other conveniences like the General Store, which is a full sized grocery-- also nearby. Here, it's camping with more amenities and conveniences than most parks. Great for camping noobs. Overall I love Mather, and site 171 was a great stay, but my main gripe is that one of the park's main roads is right behind the site, so there's a lot of traffic during the day. Not enough to be horribly distracting, but I'd recommend looking for sites a little further away from the road. Still, if you don't have choice, it's not so bad as to ruin your trip. There's a little distance between you and the road. Other than that, great place to stay, at one of the world's most amazing parks!
