If you look carefully at the drive by video or picture for site 46, you'll see my yellow REI Base Camp 4 tent. Yes, that's mine. Campvue actually spends the night at these campgrounds to get you the best info! I want to start with that because that shade is why I chose this site. It wasn't easy... before I booked I studied other photos and videos (there was not anything really clear I found), and made a bet that site 46 has good shade under those trees. And boy did it! This is a primo site for shade in this campground. There's a perfect little nook in the trees to pitch a tent, and it was exactly what I had hoped. And in this area, in the summer, that shade is so needed! Now, other sites have trees and shade too, so no worries if 46 is taken, but if not and you like shade, it's a good one. Next, one of the restrooms with flushing toilets is in the backyard of this site, with a small trail that connects to it. So this was convenient. I thought the bathrooms did look pretty dated and are due for some upgrades, but still, a welcome amenity out here. The main critique of those I have is early one morning, before sunrise, I went in, and there was a black widow spider under the sink, which when I turned the light on, abruptly disappeared under the sink. Now, I am not afraid of those, but want to mention it. If you have small kids, make sure they don't go playing under the sink, and if you work there (hosts I am looking at you), something to keep an eye on. Chances are likely when you go, it will not be there. The site was also very level and very suitable for a tent. Overall, the campground was clean, and the only nuisance were ants. There are different ones... small black ones, and the large red harvester ants. What some would call "fire ants". The latter make large mounds all over the area (not just the campground), and you'll rarely find an active mound in the middle of a campsite, but often nearby... so you'll see these ants roaming about everywhere. And they can bite. They almost always go about their business, but out of all my travels this year, seems like Dinosaur is not just a good place to find fossils, but lots and lots of ants too! They did not cause any issues in the end... just sort of a nuisance. I spent 3 days here, and ventured deep into the park via dirt road drives (appropriate for 4 x 4's), so being able to camp and stay here was necessary, and welcome. There's much more to Dinosaur than the fossil exhibit! I do want to note, this is a very remote area, and the nearby town of Jensen does not really feel like a town, but just local farms. I did not find any services in that town, but nearby Vernal has you covered, although it's a little bit of a drive. Recommend coming with what you need. Site 46 does not seem ideal for an RV or rig. Seems best for tent campers. The parking area is right off the road (no driveway), so at best, maybe a camper van. The neighboring sites are not far, but for one of them, the trees create a small barrier, and the other was far enough away as to not cause any issues. All campers were pretty courteous during my stay. The only nit pick with privacy might be the bathroom, as many adjacent sites have trails that cut through near the back of 46, but still far enough away to not be awkward, but it does create for a more trafficked thoroughfare. All in all though, I think 46 is a wonderful choice, especially for fellow tent campers like me!
